On April 13 of 2007, the Tawheed Institute of NY organized a special event entitled "Muslim Unity Night" with the aim to bridge unity and harmony within the Muslim community. The program was geared towards having an academic and intellectual dialogue to enhance further understanding of the different beliefs within the Shia- Sunni factions. Its participants came from all over the tri-state area, many whom were open minded individuals enlightened with the presence of both Sheikh Odeh Muhawesh and Br. Hassanain Rajabali.
The speakers eloquently brought into light that in order for unity to be achieved, we fundamentally need to understand each other's differences and acknowledge them instead of simply tolerating each other for the sake of pretending to be united on issues that are already disagreed upon. Their insightful lectures caught the audience’s full attention thereafter engaging in a healthy question and answer session.
